Linda Romerman Jennings
1988-1996
Linda Romerman was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in
1946. She married Richard "Dick" Jennings in 1966, and subsequently graduated
from the University of Oklahoma in 1967. After college, she went to work at
Oklahoma City University as an Assistant Director of Student Activities, leaving
after two years with her Masters Degree in MAT. She re-joined the University of
Oklahoma in 1969 as an Assistant Director for Residential Programs for
Sororities, and finished her career there as the Director of Teacher Placement
in 1971. In June of 1971, she and Dick had their first child, Chris, and moved
to Oklahoma City to make their home. They had their second child, Jonathan, in
May of 1975 while she continued to work various jobs from the home. As her
children grew, Linda decided to return to work and in 1979 she started teaching
history at Heritage Hall. She remained at Heritage for eight years teaching A.P.
History, Psychology, Sociology, and International Relations.
In November of 1987 Linda's father, Jack Romerman, passed after battling a long illness. Less than six months later in April of 1988, Linda also lost her mother Janice Lee to the cancer she had been battling. Faced with difficult decisions, she decided to leave teaching to continue operations of Oran Huston Lumber. Emotional strains proved to be too much for her marriage to Dick and they divorced in 1989. She helmed Oran Huston through a difficult time for small lumberyards in Oklahoma City, including the introduction of Home Depot and Lowe's to the market, and the adverse economic impact of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Linda unfortunately was forced to close the doors at Oran Huston in 1996 after sixty years of continued business. She is currently living in Oklahoma City and works for the State of Oklahoma.
