Jack Romerman
1949-1988
Jack Romerman was born in Dover, Oklahoma in 1917. He graduated from
the University of Oklahoma with a LLB in 1940. Shortly thereafter, he married
his true love Janice Lee Huston, and was called into active duty where he
served as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps. His duties as an
intelligence officer included the North African campaign, for which he received
the Croix de Guerre Avec Palms from the French government, and the landing at
Salerno during the Italian campaign. Among the decorations he received were the
Legion of Merit, the Purple Heart, and the Silver Star for gallantry in action.
He returned to Oklahoma City after the war, working as a mortgage loan inspector for the Prudential Insurance Company up until the death of his father-in-law Oran Huston in 1949. The Oran Huston Lumber Company was left to Oran's surviving children Dix, Fred, and Janice Lee. Jack left Prudential to work at Oran Huston where he remained until the death of Thomas "Dix" Huston, when he and Janice Lee subsequently bought the remaining shares from the family of Dix, and Fred Huston.
Jack served as Chairman of the Board and owner of Oran Huston Lumber up until his death in 1987. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mid-America Lumberman's Association; the Board of Trustees for the Mid-America Lumberman's Association Insurance Fund; the joint Political Action Committee of the Oklahoma Lumberman's/Mid-America Lumberman's Association; a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association for 47 years; and was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church for 42 years, serving as an elder. Jack and Janice Lee had two daughters, Jean Anne and Linda.
